2023 Leadership Lecture Mr. Kwame Pianim Advocates for Population Control and Digital Reforms for Ghana’s Future Development in 2057 Vision
Mr. Kwame Pianism’s lecture, titled “Re-imagining Ghana’s Development Trajectory for a Peaceful, Prosperous Nation by 2057,” emphasizes several critical points for Ghana’s future development. Pianim calls for significant economic reforms, notably advocating for a reduction in the population growth rate from the current 2.1% to below 1%. He argues that such a change is essential for sustainable economic growth, drawing comparisons to South Korea’s successful population management policies, which contributed to its development trajectory .
Mr Pianim highlights the need for a holistic approach to development, integrating digital transformation to curb corruption and enhance efficiency. He proposes the digitalization of payment systems, such as salaries and social security contributions, to reduce human contact and minimize opportunities for corrupt practices. Additionally, he emphasizes restructuring the administrative system to focus on policy formulation and evaluation at the ministerial level, while districts and agencies under elected District Chief Executives (DCEs) handle implementation
Furthermore, Mr Pianim stresses the importance of ethical leadership and collective responsibility among Ghanaians. He points out that the peaceful nature of Ghana provides a stable foundation for development, but there is a need for proactive measures to address economic challenges. By drawing parallels with the progress of countries like South Korea, China, and Malaysia, he underscores the potential for Ghana to achieve significant growth if the population growth rate is controlled and comprehensive development policies are implemented.
