Vacancy for Senior Level Professional Position: Legal Officer

POSITION: Legal Officer
REPORTING TO: Legal Counsel
Job Summary
The Office of the Legal Counsel shall, under the Vice-Chancellor, be responsible for providing legal counsel, advice and representation in all matters and proceedings of the University.
The successful applicant will be a member of the team and will assist the Legal Counsel in the discharge of the responsibilities of the Office of the Legal Counsel.
DUTIES
The successful applicant shall:
- Assist the Legal Counsel to provide legal advice on all University
- Draft, review or interpret all agreements involving the
- Draft, review or interpret policies involving the
- Represent or ensure that the University is appropriately represented in all dispute resolution proceedings, including out-of-court settlements.
- Facilitate the work of disciplinary boards or committees and provide legal support in the conduct of disciplinary proceedings involving Senior Members, Senior Staff, Junior Members and Junior Staff, including those on contract, and other members of the University charged with misconduct under the Laws of the University.
- Facilitate the work of the Appeals Board of the
- Facilitate the work of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the
- Serve on planning and policy making
- Review University initiatives, decisions and processes to determine compliance with applicable laws.
- Serve on relevant committees of the
- Perform any other functions that the Legal Counsel may
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree
- Professional law qualification and duly enrolled at the Bar to practise law in Ghana
- Minimum of three (3) years relevant working experience after pupillage
Required knowledge, ability and skills:
- The position requires a high level of integrity, as the position holder will be exposed to confidential and sensitive information;
- Ability to maintain professional behaviour in all situations;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- A good understanding of governance and decision-making processes at UG;
- Proven analytical skills – ability to assimilate detailed information and identify key issues;
- Highly organised, efficient and resourceful with the ability to multi-task amid conflicting demands and busy work periods;
- Excellent attention to detail and deadlines; and,
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office
