The newly appointed Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Finance of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor Isaac Boadi, has paid a courtesy call on the President of the UPSA Global Alumni Association, Mr Francis Dadzie.
The two gentlemen held discussions on a wide range of important issues aimed at improving the learning experience of students, especially those pursuing the accounting, economics, and actuarial science programmes.
Prof. Boadi emphasised the need to educate students on soft skills, which he said are essential for succeeding in the workplace.
He stressed that the faculty is committed to implementing programmes and seminars that would help students develop these skills and enhance their practical learning.
Prof Boadi also expressed his desire to bring in expert practitioners from the accounting, economics, and actuarial science fields to deliver regular lectures and organise workshops for students with the aim of providing practical insights into real-world applications of the concepts they are learning in the classroom.
“I consider the Alumni Association to be an important stakeholder in achieving these objectives,” Prof. Boadi said. “That’s why I have come to you to solicit your support and partner with you. I am hopeful that these initiatives will positively impact students’ learning outcomes and prepare them for success in their future careers.”
The Alumni President, Mr Francis Dadzie, welcomed the dean’s proposal for a partnership, saying “it is a step in the right direction.”
He briefed him on the activities of the association and how the alumni body had partnered with the faculty in the past to put together a number of student-centered seminars and training programmes.
These include the Alumni Spotlight Series, where graduates of the University come to engage current students to share practical knowledge about industry practice.
Other important issues discussed at the meeting included the need for the construction of a police station to boost security on campus, the reintroduction of academic prizes for best-graduating students, and the institution of financial aid for students.
Prof Boadi commended the Alumni Association for their efforts and encouraged them to continue supporting the faculty and the university in general.
