UPSA Annual Leadership Lecture 2019

  • Date June 25, 2024

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in the 2019 Annual Leadership Lecture at UPSA on the topic Leadership: Strengthening Democratic Institutions for National Development, discussed the essential qualities of effective leadership, emphasizing integrity, accountability, and service to the people. He highlighted the importance of ethical governance, arguing that leaders must prioritize the welfare of their citizens over personal gains. His insights drew from his experiences as a traditional leader, blending historical perspectives with contemporary challenges

He also underscored the significance of education in empowering individuals and fostering national development. Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II advocated for a holistic approach to education that incorporates cultural heritage and values. He stressed that education should not only equip individuals with skills but also instill a sense of identity and responsibility towards their community.

Furthermore, he addressed the role of traditional leadership in modern governance. He argued for a collaborative approach between traditional and contemporary institutions, suggesting that the wisdom and stability provided by traditional leaders can complement the formal political structures. This synergy, he proposed, can lead to more effective governance and sustainable development.
